Meaulnes it-Twil ​(Le Grand Meaulnes​) is a translation of Alain-Fournier's famous into Maltese by Paul Zahra. Here Alain-Fournier narrates his story as a folkloristic tale which pleases the young and the old alike, taking the reader into an imaginary world filled with fantasy, love and nostalgia for the lost past.

​About the Translator

Originally a language teacher addressing two-way translation to students of French, together with French literature and Systems of Knowledge in Malta, Paul Zahra has a Master's degree in textual analysis from the University of Poitiers. He also holds a Diploma in the teaching of French as foreign language. Since 2004, Zahra has been a full-time translator for the European Commission in Brussels.

Zahra's interest in literary translation goes back to the early 90s when FARAXA first published his translation Le Grand Meaulnes ​​as ​Meulnes it-Twil. In 2013, the translator saw the publication of his translation of Balzac’s La maison du chat-qui pelote / Id-dar tal-qattus bir-rakketta f'idu, ​as part of the series ​Kollezzjoni Traduzzjonijiet Letterarji ​(Collection of Literary Translations). Zahra is presently translating Gustave Flaubert's epic novel Salammbô into Maltese. His main professional interests are translation studies, classical and modern literature, classical history and culture.

A highly enjoyable tale .
I recommend this book to those who want to read a good book in Maltese. It is a very good translation and I am sure the story will remain with you for a long time . This is truly a novel to get lost in. Well done Paul Zahra. Lets hope there is more.
